About

Niki Tapscott and Alex Tapscott grew up on a quiet, tree-lined Cul-de-Sac in Toronto, Canada. Niki- the eldest- was a pugnacious and energetic child. Alex, despite his birth weight (born 10 lbs 6 oz- nicknamed ‘the bruiser’ in the maternity ward), was nevertheless the gentler spirit. Together, they made (and still make) a dynamic duo.

As they grew older, Niki and Alex became close friends and developed similar tastes- mainly style, fashion, architecture, technology, food and sports. After much discussion and soul-searching they decided to start this blog as a celebration of these awesome and wonderful things. Niki- now living in Geneva, Switzerland- has a uniqe perspective on all things European Awesome. While Alex, living on the other side of the pond in hometown Toronto, feels he’s got his finger on the pulse of all things North American Awesome.

The name ‘Lone Brigadier’ comes from a family vacation we took to Kenya in 2008. Niki and Alex were told the story of an aging Cape Buffalo- one of the largest and most feared animals in Africa- splitting from the pack he had lived with his whole life to pursue a solitary existance- He was “a lone brigadier,” so to speak. He wandered the plains for many years, isolated from the rest of the animal kingdom, until his death.  Alex and Niki are pretty social animals, so this isn’t some elaborate allegory- just a really awesome story. One of many you will be reading on their blog.

Cheers and enjoy!
